GENERAL RULES
|
|
Poultry
|
|
Along with general livestock rules, the following rules apply to poultry.
|

(No poultry classes for 2023 due to the spread of avian flu and WVDA recommendation.) Each exhibitor is limited to 3 entries.
-
Entries shall consist of single birds only, except as noted in the classes below.

All birds must be in good health and must comply with sanitary regulations of the Department of Agriculture of the State of West Virginia. Click here for a printable version.

Premiums will be awarded only to worthy exhibits.

The Fair Association will furnish exhibitions coops and water, the exhibitor is to furnish feed.

Only one set of ribbons per class.

All poultry exhibits must be pullorum tested within 30 days of the Wirt Co. Fair. A certificate of proof must be presented. Call WVU Extension Office for testing: 304-275-3101.

The exhibitor will be required to keep their coops and space in clean condition by removing filth and litter, or may hire someone to do so. Prize money will be forfeited and a $50.00 fee assessed per animal if the coop is not cleaned after the animal is removed at the close of the fair.

NO ANIMALS MAY ENTER THE BARN BEFORE THE DESIGNATED WEIGH IN TIME.

Rabbits
|
|
Along with general livestock rules, the following rules apply to rabbits.
|

Market rabbits must be younger than 3 months old.
-
Market rabbits must be owned by the exhibitor by June 1, 2023.

Market rabbits must weigh between 3 and 6 pounds. Any market rabbit weighing less than 3 pounds or more than 6 pounds will not be eligible for Grand or Reserve. In addition, market rabbits weighing over 6 pounds will have a selling weight of 6 pounds.

Water and cages will be furnished by the Fair Association, but feed and water bottles must be furnished by the exhibitor.

Entries in the 4-H and FFA Market Classes will be eligible to be sold during the livestock auction. Rabbits will be sold by the pen of three, with each rabbit weighing between 3-6 pounds.

Only one pen of three market rabbits may be sold per exhibitor.
