GENERAL RULES

Poultry

  1. Each exhibitor is limited to 3 entries.

  2. Entries shall consist of single birds only, except as noted in the classes below.

  3. All birds must be in good health and must comply with sanitary regulations of the Department of Agriculture of the State of West Virginia. Click here for a printable version.

  4. Premiums will be awarded only to worthy exhibits.

  5. The Fair Association will furnish exhibitions coops and water, the exhibitor is to furnish feed.

  6. Only one set of ribbons per class.

  7. All poultry exhibits must be pullorum tested within 30 days of the Wirt Co. Fair. A  certificate of proof must be presented. Call WVU Extension Office for testing: 275-3101.

  8. The exhibitor will be required to keep their coops and space in clean condition by removing filth and litter, or may hire someone to do so. Prize money will be forfeited and a $50.00 fee assessed per animal if the coop is not cleaned after the animal is removed at the close of the fair.

  9. NO ANIMALS MAY ENTER THE BARN BEFORE THE DESIGNATED WEIGH IN TIME.

Rabbits

  1. Exhibits must be owned by the exhibitor by June 1.

  2. Water and cages will be furnished by the Fair Association, but feed and water bottles must be furnished by the exhibitor.

  3. Any stock arriving sick or becoming sick while at the Fair will be removed to a safe place and given the best possible care. However, the management assumes no responsibility of illness or loss of exhibit.

  4. No persons shall handle his or her exhibit or any other exhibit without permission of the department superintendent.

  5. The decision of the judges will be final.

  6. All market rabbits must come from breeding projects.

  7. Rabbits less than four months old will be sold at the livestock sale in a pen of three with each rabbit weighing 3-6 pounds, if exhibited in the market class. Rabbits sold will be a 4-H or FFA members enrolled in a rabbit project.

  8. Only one pen of three market rabbits may be sold per exhibitor.
