GENERAL RULES
|
|
Along with general livestock rules, the following rules apply to sheep.
|

Market sheep must be born on or after January 1, 2023.
-
Market sheep must be owned by exhibitors by May 1, 2023.

Market sheep must weigh between 100 and 150 pounds. Any market sheep weighing less than 100 pounds or more than 150 pounds will not be eligible for Grand or Reserve. In addition, market sheep weighing over 150 pounds will have a selling weight of 150 pounds.

All market sheep must have scrapies ID tag.

All animals must comply with health regulations of the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. Click here for a printable version.

NO OPEN CLASSES FOR 2023. Any open division sheep must have an honor flock inspection prior to the Wirt County Fair in order to be eligible to participate in open classes. Flock inspections must be performed by a State Animal Health Inspector or a Veterinarian.

NO ANIMALS MAY ENTER THE BARN BEFORE THE DESIGNATED WEIGH IN TIME.

They will be assigned to these weight divisions by a special committee after weigh in. This committee includes representatives from the Vo-Ag Department, WVU Cooperative Extension Service, Wirt County Youth Livestock Association and the Wirt County Fair Association.
